Because Not Every Old Dog Needs to Be Put Down

You’ve seen them before — machines with more dents than a bakkie in a Joburg parking lot.Paint peeling. Hydraulic oil leaking. Glass cracked.Somewhere on a forgotten job site or back corner of a dusty farmyard sits what looks like a retired excavator ready for scrap.

But where most people see a write-off, we see potential. This is the Vikfin philosophy in action:Don’t junk it — strip it, fix it, repurpose it, and get it digging again.

Welcome to the world of used excavator parts done right.Welcome to the scrapyard resurrection.

A Tale of Two Excavators

Let’s start with two machines.

Machine A:

A Komatsu PC210 that’s been sitting idle for 2 years after an engine failure. The owner gave up and parked it. It’s now gathering cobwebs, rust, and regret.

Machine B:

A nearly identical Komatsu PC210, but it just blew a final drive and needs a fix — fast. The owner gets a dealership quote and nearly passes out.

Here’s where Vikfin steps in, and where machine A saves machine B’s life.(With a little help from a few skilled hands, an angle grinder, and some diesel.)

What We Do at Vikfin (Besides Drink Too Much Coffee)

At Vikfin, we don’t just sell used parts. We salvage, test, and revive components from old or damaged excavators. We give dead machines a second shot — by turning them into donor heroes for the living.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: The Hunt

We’re always on the lookout for:

  • Crashed machines

  • Parked relics

  • Retired fleet units

  • Insurance write-offs

  • “Hopeless cases” from remote farms

If it’s got a bucket and a VIN number, we’re interested.

Sometimes we tow them. Sometimes we drag them. Sometimes we collect them with a crane that’s held together by sheer willpower.

But we bring them back to the Vikfin yard.

Step 2: The Strip-Down

Once on-site, our team of strip-down specialists (a.k.a. guys with great tools and worse jokes) go to work.

  • Cabs come off

  • Booms and arms get removed

  • Hydraulics are separated

  • Engines, swing motors, drives — all carefully extracted

  • Every bolt, bracket and pin gets tagged, tested, and catalogued

It’s like Grey’s Anatomy — but with grease and excavators.

Step 3: Testing, Cleaning, Restoring

This is where most “used part dealers” drop the ball. Not us.

We don’t sell “maybe it works” parts. We:

  • Test motors and drives on a custom-built bench

  • Flush and check hydraulic pumps

  • Clean and pressure-test coolers

  • Inspect gearboxes

  • Recondition components that deserve another shot

  • Replace worn seals and dodgy bearings

If we wouldn’t fit it to our own machine, we won’t sell it to you.

Step 4: Inventory & Matching

Now we catalogue every part into our system:

  • By make and model (Komatsu, CAT, Hitachi, Volvo, Doosan, etc.)

  • By component type (final drives, pumps, swing motors, undercarriage, etc.)

  • By condition (tested used, reconditioned, or core for rebuild)

So when you WhatsApp us and say “Hey, I need a final drive for a ZX200-5G,”we can answer in minutes, not weeks.

Step 5: Solution Delivery

Need a replacement cab door in the Karoo?A pump in Polokwane?A track motor in the Free State?

We’ve done it all. And we’ll get it to you:

  • Fast

  • Tested

  • And ready to fit

Our motto: “No delays. No drama. Just digging.”

But… Why Go Through All This Trouble?

Because we know something most people forget:

There’s still life in these machines.

South Africa is tough on equipment — between the dust, the heat, the terrain, and Eskom’s inability to keep the lights on.

So when one part fails, you don’t always need to replace the whole machine. You just need the right part — at the right price — from someone who knows their stuff.

And let’s be real: Not everyone has half a million rand lying around for a new OEM component.Especially not now.

How This Saves You (and the Country) Money

Let’s break it down:

💸 1. Lower Cost

Used and tested parts can cost 30% to 70% less than OEM. And in many cases, they last just as long.

Example:New CAT 320C swing motor = R120,000+Used tested swing motor from Vikfin = R38,000. That’s R82k saved, mate.

🌱 2. Less Waste

Every time we repurpose a component, we keep:

  • 400kg of steel out of landfills

  • Oil and grease out of the ground

  • Energy and raw materials from being wasted

Green isn’t just a buzzword. It’s sustainability with steel toes.

🔧 3. Local Jobs

This isn’t a side hustle. It’s a machine. And behind it are real people:

  • Strip-down experts

  • Mechanics

  • Test bench operators

  • Sales staff

  • Logistics teams

We keep money — and skills — circulating in South Africa.

Who Benefits from This?

Pretty much anyone who owns an excavator. But especially:

🧑‍🌾 Farmers

Who need to keep old machines running without blowing next season’s profit.

🏗️ Contractors

Who want affordable parts for their Komatsus and CATs — not invoice-induced heart attacks.

🧰 Mechanics

Who need fast solutions, parts that fit, and suppliers who speak their language.

👷 Fleet Managers

Who are under pressure to keep costs down and machines running, no matter what Eskom’s doing.

The Machines We’ve Rescued

Over the years, we’ve stripped and salvaged:

  • CAT 320, 330, 336

  • Komatsu PC200, PC300, PC400

  • Hitachi ZX200, ZX280

  • Volvo EC210, EC290

  • Doosan DX225, DX300

  • Hyundai R210, R290

And every single one has helped another machine get back to work.

Think of it like organ donation — but oilier.

Real-Life Result: A Cape Town Contractor’s Win

We had a contractor in Cape Town with a cracked boom on a Volvo EC240. OEM wanted a 6-week wait and a price tag that made him swear in two languages.

We had a used boom from a low-hour EC240 we’d just stripped. Minor welding, pressure test passed, ready to ship. Saved him 60k and 5 weeks of downtime.

Another day, another resurrection.

Why Customers Come Back to Vikfin

  • We speak machine fluently

  • We stock parts you won’t find anywhere else

  • We actually test what we sell

  • We hustle to deliver

  • And we’re not just here to make a buck — we’re here to keep your wheels turning

Our return customers aren’t just “clients” — they’re partners.

So… What’s Sitting in Your Scrapyard?

That Komatsu you gave up on? The Hitachi with the cracked chassis? That CAT missing a cab and a dream?

Don’t write it off yet.Strip it. Salvage it. Sell the parts.Or even better — send it our way and let us give it a second life.

Because at Vikfin, we don’t waste machines. We revive them.
